A car that clicks, cranks slowly, or needs a jump every morning usually has a dying battery, but not always. Sam's Mobile Mechanic tests the battery, the alternator, and the parasitic draw before selling you anything, so you do not replace a good battery and have the same problem next week.

Batteries in this region typically last three to five years. Philadelphia summers cook them and the first hard freeze finishes them off, which is why so many batteries die in December after a July that seemed fine. We load-test yours and show you the reading.

If it is the battery, we carry replacements and install on-site, including the terminal cleaning and the memory-saving procedure that newer vehicles need so you do not lose radio presets, window calibration, or stored settings. Many late-model cars also require the new battery to be registered to the charging system, and we handle that too.

What's included

  • Free battery and charging system test
  • New batteries carried and installed on-site
  • Terminal, cable, and ground cleaning
  • Battery registration on vehicles that need it
  • Old battery hauled away and recycled

Signs you need this service

These are the symptoms customers describe most often, and what each one usually means.

Slow, lazy cranking
The starter is turning but the battery cannot deliver the amps. Classic sign of a battery near the end of its life.
Rapid clicking when you turn the key
Not enough current to engage the starter solenoid. Usually the battery, sometimes a corroded cable.
Dash lights dim when you crank
Voltage is collapsing under load. A load test confirms it in under a minute.
You need a jump more than once
A healthy charging system recharges the battery as you drive. If it keeps dying, either the battery cannot hold charge or something is draining it.

How we handle it on-site

Because we are mobile, the process is a little different from a shop. You tell us the year, make, model, and what the car is doing. We give you a likely diagnosis and a price range on the phone. A certified mechanic then drives to wherever the car is parked, confirms the fault with real testing, and only then does the work at the price you agreed to.

We serve Philadelphia and the surrounding region around the clock, which includes Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey, northern Delaware, and Elkton, Maryland. Call or text (215) 384-3065 and we will tell you honestly whether this is a job we can finish at your address.

“My car hasn’t started since July 3rd and we thought it was an issue with the starter. But Sam came out and saw that it was just a dead battery and replaced it quickly. He gave great service and even gave me free windshield wipers. I’d definitely call him again”

Questions about car battery replacement & testing

Do you really come to my house or work?

Yes. That is the whole business. Sam's Mobile Mechanic is a mobile service, so a certified mechanic drives to your home, apartment lot, office parking lot, or the roadside with the tools and parts to do the job there. You do not drop the car off and you do not wait in a lobby.

How much do you charge?

You get a price before any work begins. We quote the repair once we know what is actually wrong, and that number is what you pay. No hidden shop fees, no surprise add-ons at the end.

What kind of repairs can you do on-site?

Most of them. Brakes, batteries, alternators, starters, spark plugs and coils, oil and fluid services, AC work, sensors, belts, hoses, thermostats, diagnostics, and full maintenance are all routine at your location. Jobs that genuinely need a lift, a press, or machine work are the exceptions, and we tell you straight when that is the case.

Do you charge for diagnostics?

There is a diagnostic fee when a fault needs real testing rather than a quick look, and we apply it to the repair if you have us do the work. We tell you the fee before we come out.

What areas do you serve?

Philadelphia and the surrounding region, including Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey from Camden down through Gloucester and Burlington counties, northern Delaware, and Elkton in Maryland. There are individual pages for every city we cover on this site.
