Engine trouble covers a wide range, from a small oil leak to an overheat that can end the motor. Sam's Mobile Mechanic diagnoses engine faults on-site and handles the repairs that can be done outside a shop, with honest advice when a job truly needs a lift.

We handle sensors, gaskets, belts, hoses, thermostats, water pumps where accessible, cooling system leaks, valve cover and oil pan leaks, PCV faults, vacuum leaks, timing-related codes, and the long tail of drivability problems that make a car feel wrong without setting an obvious code.

For the big-ticket questions like a knock, low compression, a head gasket, or coolant in the oil, we perform real tests before delivering a verdict. That means compression, leak-down, cooling system pressure, and block testing for combustion gases. If the honest answer is that the repair costs more than the car is worth, we will tell you that, because you deserve the truth more than we need the job.

What's included

  • Compression and cylinder leak-down testing
  • Cooling system pressure and overheat diagnosis
  • Oil, coolant, and vacuum leak repair
  • Sensors, gaskets, belts, hoses, thermostats
  • Straight answers on repair-versus-replace

Signs you need this service

These are the symptoms customers describe most often, and what each one usually means.

Temperature gauge climbing
Stop driving. Overheating warps heads and destroys head gaskets within minutes, turning a small repair into a huge one.
Knocking or ticking that rises with RPM
Could be low oil, a lifter, or a rod bearing. The difference matters enormously, and a listening test tells us a lot.
Blue, white, or black exhaust smoke
Blue is burning oil, white is usually coolant, black is running rich. Each points somewhere different.
Puddles under where you park
Color and location narrow it down fast. We identify the fluid and trace the source.

How we handle it on-site

Because we are mobile, the process is a little different from a shop. You tell us the year, make, model, and what the car is doing. We give you a likely diagnosis and a price range on the phone. A certified mechanic then drives to wherever the car is parked, confirms the fault with real testing, and only then does the work at the price you agreed to.

We serve Philadelphia and the surrounding region around the clock, which includes Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey, northern Delaware, and Elkton, Maryland. Call or text (215) 384-3065 and we will tell you honestly whether this is a job we can finish at your address.

“Couldn’t say better things! My car battery died and I needed to replace it same day. They came out in 45 minutes from when I called and changed it so quickly and efficiently. Great experience! Don’t hesitate to call them!”

Anasheh SookezianGoogle review, 5 months ago

“My car hasn’t started since July 3rd and we thought it was an issue with the starter. But Sam came out and saw that it was just a dead battery and replaced it quickly. He gave great service and even gave me free windshield wipers. I’d definitely call him again”

Questions about engine repair & performance

Do you really come to my house or work?

Yes. That is the whole business. Sam's Mobile Mechanic is a mobile service, so a certified mechanic drives to your home, apartment lot, office parking lot, or the roadside with the tools and parts to do the job there. You do not drop the car off and you do not wait in a lobby.

How much do you charge?

You get a price before any work begins. We quote the repair once we know what is actually wrong, and that number is what you pay. No hidden shop fees, no surprise add-ons at the end.

What kind of repairs can you do on-site?

Most of them. Brakes, batteries, alternators, starters, spark plugs and coils, oil and fluid services, AC work, sensors, belts, hoses, thermostats, diagnostics, and full maintenance are all routine at your location. Jobs that genuinely need a lift, a press, or machine work are the exceptions, and we tell you straight when that is the case.

Do you charge for diagnostics?

There is a diagnostic fee when a fault needs real testing rather than a quick look, and we apply it to the repair if you have us do the work. We tell you the fee before we come out.

What areas do you serve?

Philadelphia and the surrounding region, including Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania, South Jersey from Camden down through Gloucester and Burlington counties, northern Delaware, and Elkton in Maryland. There are individual pages for every city we cover on this site.
